While Getting a Divorce: Should You Stay or Should You Go Away?
Published on Wednesday, 04 May 2011
Getting a divorce is not uncommon in today's society. However, the time while you are getting a divorce can really be tough and challenging. This is the time when you are pressed to decide if you will move out of your house or not. If your home is jointly owned, you and your partner have equal rights to it. But if it is owned by a single party only, the non-owner still has the right to move out or stay in the house as s/he pleases. You can just make your spouse leave the house by virtue of a order of protection issued by the court. If you wish to move out, determine if you are capable of keeping two households. You should think that by getting a new apartment, you should also pay for new bills. You can still live in your house by having separate bedrooms, child care time slots, and even eating schedules. This tolerable coexistence can save you a lot of dollars. However, if you persist to leave the home then claim equal rights to it, the judge may just order for it to be sold. But most of the time, the house is awarded to the party who was also awarded with primary custody of the children. Last but not the least, before you go, you must remember that your valuables are in your house and your angry spouse may damage them out of frustration.
