First Time to Move? A Checklist of the Things You Need
Published on Tuesday, 11 October 2011
Moving means that you can start afresh and have a different pace of life in an entirely new place. This is something that you should actually marvel at, but the stresses involved in an actual move is what people do not exactly look forward to. The best way to turn any move into a stress-free one is to organize things as early as possible - and it all starts with the packing. Basically, you should make an inventory of your things first. Organize your stuff in such a way that you would know which ones to throw away, donate or make money from by putting together a garage sale.
After determining the items that you need to take with you on your new home, here is a checklist of the things that you need.
• Regular moving boxes.
You can buy these, ask for them from a friend or relative who recently moved, or purchase them from your removals company. Regular moving boxes are sturdy enough to carry your knickknacks, as long as you secure the bottom and top part with packaging tape.
• Specialized containers for fragile items.
Your LCD TV, paintings, picture frames, vanity mirrors, breakable kitchenware, computer sets and other electronics need to be packaged with care. Otherwise, you are risking damage to the items during the transport period. To make sure that there will be no damage to these items, look for specialized containers. There are sturdy boxes that you can use to pack your LCD TV, for example. Better yet, ask the removals company if they can pack these sensitive items for you - the rates are usually charged on an hourly basis.
• Packing materials.
Lastly, prepare other packing materials like bubble wrap, markers, packaging tape and other things to make the task of packing a lot easier for you when you move.
