Moving with Your Dog - What to Prepare Before, During and After the Move

Published on Tuesday, 29 December 2009

Moving with Your Dog - What to Prepare Before, During and After the MoveThere are three crucial things you must look into when you are moving to another place with your dog. First, you must consider tips to do before the move. Second, you must focus on what to do during moving day. Lastly, you must also remember to help your dog once you are moving in to the new home.   Preparing your dog before the move   Allow your dogs to be safe inside a room in your old house. Give him his own quiet time. It will be so stressful for him if he listens to the noise and the rush of the move.   In addition, you must allow him to play with his old stuff. Leave his equipment and beddings unpacked until a day before the move. Dogs always want to have familiar things around him.   What to do with your dog on moving day   During hours before the move, allow your dog to sit quietly in an empty room. Put some unwashed beddings on the area. This will give him time to feel more comfortable.   If you decide to move with your dog, always make sure that your dog is secure. Leave him in a safe part of your vehicle on moving day. It will also help if you put a new tag on him. This will somehow give him a sign that a new event is going to take place.   Allowing your dog to adapt in a new home   As you get to know your new neighbours, your dogs also want to adapt to the new surroundings. Unpack your essentials first. Seeing familiar things will help your dog become accustomed to an unfamiliar setting.
