How to Pack in an Organized Manner
Published on Sunday, 04 October 2009
There are a lot of things to prepare and to do when moving houses. That is why you need to get started as early as you can. If possible you should start the process not later than 5 to 6 weeks before the actual move.
Planning is the first step always. You need to make a detailed list of the things you need to do. Then you have to begin sorting your things. Some may be discarded or sold in a garage sale. If you are moving to a smaller house, others may be stored in storage units. Just bring the things you will need to your new home.
Before you start packing the things that you very seldom need or the things you will put in storage, make sure you already have enough boxes and packing materials so everything will go smoothly. As you pack each box, make sure that you have an inventory of what is in each box. Place the same list in every box as well. Label where each box is going too. If it contains delicate items, do not forget to label it "Fragile."
You should also contact utility companies so utility connections can be disconnected or transferred to your new home. You have to make sure that everything is installed when you get to your new home so settling in will be faster and convenient.
Don't forget to keep important documents with you at all times so they will not get lost during transport. Keep some essentials too for the travel. This way, you will have water and food when you get hot and hungry. You should have some toiletries and even a change of clothes so you won't have to unpack on your first night at home.
