It is the first time to be alone and have your first taste of freedom. However, moving into a dorm should not make you feel away from home. You can make your dorm as homely as possible. This is to help you not to miss your room at home too much. Universities usually provide packages that provide vital information on how a student can move in. Most universities even provide compensation for moving in their university dorms. If you are attending school abroad, you need to ask for instructions on how to move in including on what are the things needed in order for you to move and study in their university for a longer time. You might as well ask on what kind of visa that you need and if you need one and if you will need residential permit to stay longer to complete your study in their country. When you have successfully moved to your dorm, check out their house rules. There are some dorms that shares bathroom and kitchen, some offers cafeteria, some are just bedroom suite, some offers a lot of freedom where you can bring your own kitchen facilities. Knowing these rules will help you determine the appliances that you will just be needing and putting in your room. You do not have to bring cooking appliances if your dorm requires you to eat at the cafeteria. After determining the appliances and things that you will need in your room, ask if you could repaint your room. You can change the color of your room if you get the permission to change it and change it in your favourite color. If you are not allowed to repaint your room, you can just use curtains. Choose your favourite print or color for your curtains and bed sheets. This way, you can still establish a personal touch inside your room even you are away from home.
