How to Handle Furniture Whilst Moving

Published on Wednesday, 16 December 2009

To retain elegant beauty of the furniture whilst moving, it is essential to take appropriate measures to prevent dents or scrapings on the furniture. Following are few simple tips for handling furniture whilst moving.

Lift carefully

Never try to lift heavy furniture alone. Take the help of two to three people. If you cannot find any help, consider using furniture glides for moving the furniture. This will not only ease the moving of furniture but also saves you from the soaring back ache.

Disassemble if possible

Disassemble large furniture such as pool tables, piano, beds and dining table. Remove the glass table tops and pack them safely.

Provide enough padding

Provide enough padding to prevent damage to the edges. Especially, take care whilst packing wardrobes with mirrors attached to the doors. Pack large items such as television, refrigerator and washing machine in their actual boxes.

Clear the route of moving

Whilst moving the furniture make sure that the way is clear. Remove any light fixtures in the way. Have a person guide you to prevent furniture from hitting the walls or doors.

Take care whilst loading in the truck

Load the furniture carefully in to the truck. Never load boxes on top of furniture such as dining table. If you lean lengthy items such as bed to the sides of the truck, provide enough padding with the help of pillows and rugs to prevent damage.

If you are not sure of handling the furniture carefully, hire professional movers.
