How Much Time And Money Is Involved in Moving?
Published on Sunday, 25 October 2009
Packing can take as little or as much time depending on how much belongings you have to pack. Much of it would also depend on the area of your home. Of course, if you are renting a furnished apartment or condo at the moment, you would not need to bring furniture and fixtures to your destination.
This would also dictate how many men are needed during the move. While you'd want more men to finish the job earlier, it would also require more fees. Removal companies usually offer their services in packages. With their experience they would usually know how many men for a certain number of hours would be needed for your move.
Two movers would be enough if you currently live in a 250 to 500 cubic feet property. With this size it would typically take around 2 to 3 hours to finish. The removals company would usually send you a light to medium van to carry everything to your new home.
However, if you are moving from a 700 to 1150 cubic feet property, you would need 3 men and a large van to carry your belongings. These are typically homes that have 1 to 2 large bedrooms or 2 to 3 small bedrooms. With this size, it would take 5 to 6 hours to finish the job. Any property bigger than this would even require 4 men and a day's work. This would also mean larger fees.
Any delays or any excess of the estimated number of hours included in the package usually requires extra charges so you should ensure that everything is organized and ready before the movers arrive. To limit any surprise charges, inquire whether quoted rates are VAT inclusive and about other possible extra charges.
