Children and Moving

Children and Moving
Moving is already a difficult task by itself, and can even be made more so when children are involved. The normal reaction for kids when they move is either sadness or anger, as you will be displacing them form familiar surroundings and friends they grew up with.

When moving with kids, make sure to inform them early so that they can adjust to the idea that they will be leaving. Don't just spring the news on them a few days or weeks before the move itself, they will need time to inform their friends and make them most out of their time together.

You should also involve the children in the moving process like making them pack their important things, and update them on the general progress of the move. You can also subtly inject positive inputs about the new place you are moving to while you're at it. Making your kids involved in the process makes them more amenable to the whole move as they feel that they are important to it.

Another reason you should talk to your kids early is so you have time to listen to them and address any concerns they have. Don't just dismiss their feelings juts because they're kids - they will be more cooperative with you if they feel that their feelings are respected and important to you.
