There are a lot o benefits to owning a house or space you rent out. One, you are assured of a steady source of income - provided that you have tenants, of course. The major difference of renting out a house to others is that you can rent it out for a bigger amount of money, compared to a smaller space like a store room or an apartment. An additional perk would be being able to use it as a vacation house whenever you are in the area (when there are no tenants living in it). There are certain disadvantages, of course, such as having to maintain the place and the facilities - which cost money, of course. There is also the risk of having not enough tenants, which is the only source of income for a rental house. There are also some instances where you find it difficult to collect rent, and have to face the hassle of having a person evicted. But with a few common sense steps such as letting your tenants share in the expenses - they live in the place, after all, and contribute to the general wear and tear of everything in there - you'll do fine. Also learn how to market your property well to attract good tenants.
