10 Packing Tips When Moving House

Published on Friday, 11 December 2009

Moving, especially for the first time can be a humongous task to many. This is why it's better to follow these packing tips to get started the next time you move house.

1.  List out the items you need and those which you can discard and hold a garage sale to get rid of.

2.  Make a list of people you have to inform about your move like milk and paper supply men.

3.  Prepare for the move by getting everything you require to pack your belongings. Moving boxes can be bought from the local moving company. If you are lucky, you can get them for free at the local grocery store, provided you ask them to keep them for you.

4.  Use free tools used in moving companies' websites to find out how many boxes you require for the move.

5.  Generally, small boxes are better for heavy items whilst large boxes are used for lighter items. Boxes bought from moving companies are usually labeled about the best items to be stored in the box.

6.  List out and have other packing supplies like bubble wrap, newspapers, blankets and markers ready for the move.

7.  Pack things belonging to the same room in the same boxes.

8.  Half filled boxes can be filled with light but bulky items like pillows and sheets that also give added protection.

9.  Pack your kitchen belongings based on how you use them. Daily basis items like your coffee maker should always be packed on the day of the move.

10.  Make sure you label each box as you pack them using a big, black permanent marker. Even mark the room the box should be unloaded to on arriving at your destination. This facilitates easy unloading and unpacking of your things.

With these packing tips, moving seems so less stressful.
